Received B.S. and M.S. degrees in control engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan in 1972 and 1974, respectively, and a Dr of Engineering from the same institute in 1990.

1974-1981 : Researcher, Electrotechnical Laboratory, AIST (Agency of Industrial Science and Technology), MITI (Ministry of International Trande and Industry), Japan

1981-1991 : Senior Researcher, Electrotechnical Laboratory, AIST , MITI, Japan

( 1981-1982 : Visiting researcher at the National Research Council of Canada )

1991-1995 : Chief of Autonomous Systems Section, Intelligent Systems Division, Electrotechnical Laboratory, AIST, MITI, Japan

1995- present : Professor of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Chuo University.

Research Interests

His research interests include sensor planning, human-robot interaction, and visual tracking.
He is a member of the Robotics Society of Japan, the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers of Japan, the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence, the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan, and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.
